Fairview Outdoor School Field Trip

For our field trip on December 13th, we went to Fairview Outdoor School.  It was FREEZING out down there!  We learned about butterflies, worms, predators/prey, and bears.

Moths come out of cocoons.  Butterflies come out of a chrysalis.  Butterflies fly to Mexico in winter.  Butterflies fly to the Mexican Oil Tree when it is winter.  That tree is located in Mexico.

Right here I am learning about butterflies.  I made a butterfly craft.  It was fun.

Did you know that worms eat leftover garbage?  They help the earth by digging tunnels in the earth.  When it rains, worms go onto the sidewalk where it is not wet. That’s because if they stay in the grass, they would drown in the water!

I am feeding the worms.

We went on a Nature Hike to the next section of our field trip.

To talk about bears and predators and prey in the next section, we talked that bears use their sense of smell to smell their prey.  Bears can get in backyards.  So put your bird feeders and your seed and grain bags stored away because bears are attracted to the smell.

Here we are using our sense of touch to feel the bear.

The bear’s name was Burt.  He lived until he was 3 years old.  And then he got hit by a car.  Mr. E told us about Burt.

These are bear footprints, paws, and rubber bear poo, which is called scat!

This is the other room of the building.  We learned about which is predator and which is prey and parts of animals.

My mom took a picture of me and Megan.

I had a big blast!  It was really fun.  The End.
