Fairview Outdoor School Field Trip

For our field trip on December 13th, we went to Fairview Outdoor School.  It was FREEZING out down there!  We learned about butterflies, worms, predators/prey, and bears.

Moths come out of cocoons.  Butterflies come out of a chrysalis.  Butterflies fly to Mexico in winter.  Butterflies fly to the Mexican Oil Tree when it is winter.  That tree is located in Mexico.

Right here I am learning about butterflies.  I made a butterfly craft.  It was fun.

Did you know that worms eat leftover garbage?  They help the earth by digging tunnels in the earth.  When it rains, worms go onto the sidewalk where it is not wet. That’s because if they stay in the grass, they would drown in the water!

I am feeding the worms.

We went on a Nature Hike to the next section of our field trip.

To talk about bears and predators and prey in the next section, we talked that bears use their sense of smell to smell their prey.  Bears can get in backyards.  So put your bird feeders and your seed and grain bags stored away because bears are attracted to the smell.

Here we are using our sense of touch to feel the bear.

The bear’s name was Burt.  He lived until he was 3 years old.  And then he got hit by a car.  Mr. E told us about Burt.

These are bear footprints, paws, and rubber bear poo, which is called scat!

This is the other room of the building.  We learned about which is predator and which is prey and parts of animals.

My mom took a picture of me and Megan.

I had a big blast!  It was really fun.  The End.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is Indian Squanto.  The Pilgrims sailed from England to Plymouth.  They thought they would land in Virginia where it was warm, but they actually landed in Massachusetts.  They sailed on two ships: the Mayflower and the Speedwell.  The Speedwell had a hole and was overflowing.  They made a flag signal to tell the Mayflower that it couldn’t continue the voyage.  Then, after a big storm, there was a baby born.  The only name for a baby born in the ocean was Oceania.  Lots of people were getting ill.  Some were dying. Some were seasick.  Some were just sick because there wasn’t much food.  At last, they reached land.

The first men went out to see if it was safe.  It was cold.  They landed waaaay up north.  Some of them went off the ship.  Some of them stayed on.  They needed fresh corn.  No corn!  But stuff.  At last, they found some hills of sand.  They dug under one.  A basket filled with corn!  Then they found another basket when they dug up another one.  They were left by the Indians.  They found Indians, but they ran away every time they found some.  Soon, they found some Indians, but they were bad Indians.  They shot their bow and arrows at the men.  The men shot back with their guns.  Soon they found another Indian when they were building houses.  He spoke right up.  He told them there was another Indian that speaks better English than him.  He was named Squanto.

The passengers told him that many of the people had died and there were only 20 left.  They told them that almost all of the people that lived here had died.  Squanto told them how to plant corn the way they did.  The Pilgrims invited Squanto for a feast.  The Indians didn’t bring their bow and arrows.  Squanto brought 90 of his Indian crew.  We called this The First Thanksgiving.  It was in 1621.  The Pilgrims stayed there for 3 days.  So did the Indians.  It was one of the best Thanksgivings!  It was really fun.  They lived in houses in the New World.  That’s what they called it.

Ook & Gluk

These are Ook & Gluk pictures.  Ook is the kid with the stringed haircut.  Gluk is the other kid.  They moved from white belts to black belts.  They did karate at Master Wong’s School of Karate.  They are meant to stop their village from evil goppernoppers.  They are from the book Ook and Gluk: Kung Fu Cavemen from the Future by Dav Pilkey.  They have friends.  One is Mog Mog.  The other one is Lily.  They are both dinosaurs.  It is about long ago.  500,001 B.C.  That’s the year it was in.  The characters are from Captain Underpants.  (kind of.)  A kid named George Beard is a green belt. Another kid named Harold Hutchins earned a purple belt.  They are all karate belts.  Ook and Gluk are best friends.  Big Chief Goppernopper doesn’t like Ook and Gluk.  And Big Chief Goppernopper has guards.  Ook’s sister Gak is a character too.  She likes dinosaurs.  I love Ook and Gluk!  And I love drawing them too!  The End.

This is Tracy’s Walk.  Tracy’s Walk is raising money for Mrs. McKinsey.  She is my gym teacher.  She is sick and in the hospital.

We walked 1/2 an hour.  Each mile is 4 laps long.  This is me walking.  My brothers went too.  We walked about 6 laps around the track.

Hi Mom!

This is me & my brothers walking.  Me and Hayden are on the right.  Parker is on the left.  Me and Hayden are in Row 2.  Parker is in Row 1.

It was fun!  The walk raised over $18,000 to help Mrs. McKinsey.

Sunday Art

This is NASCAR Racing 2010.  These NASCARS are racing at Kansas Speedway.  They are on Turn 2.  Kansas has 270 laps.

This is NFL 2010.  It is a picture of the Bengals in the middle and the other teams around it.  This is just a few of them.  NFL is pronounced N first, next F, then L.  You can also watch NFL on TV. And you can play the game NFL 07, 08, 09, or 10.  Right now, the Redskins just won!

This is the Lincoln Memorial.  It is in Washington, D.C. It is our United States’ capital of our country.  It is in between Virginia and Maryland.  Maryland is the Old Line State.  It is brown.  The Lincoln Memorial is on the back of most pennies.

This is the White House where the presidents live in the United States.  It is white.  It has an American flag.  On the bottom, it has a bowling alley.  Richard Nixon built it.  Jimmy Carter was born on a peanut farm.  President Gerald Ford played football.  Thomas Jefferson’s pet, Dick, a mockingbird, took food from his lips!  President William H. Taft played baseball.  And last, but not least, Barack Obama is our president.  He lives in the White House too.  And is our 44th president.  He used to live in a regular house.  And he will run again in 2012.   Most of the presidents lived in the White House.

This is the Washington, DC Monument at sunset.  It is white or gray.  And it is pointy and tall.  It sits on a circle platform in the water.  It is in Washington, DC.  It is taller than 3 school buses or more.  About 65 Lincoln presidents would make the Washington, DC Monument.  It also has an American flag on top of it.  When there was only 13 states, people thought it wasn’t there.  But it was!  But it only had 13 stars and they were placed in a circle.  It is one of the popular buildings.  It is fat at the bottom by skinny at the top.  It would take you about 10 or 11 months to reach the tippy top of it!  It almost reaches the clouds.  The White House is pretty near it.    Washington, DC has it in the United States.

This is called Rainbow the Doughnut.  He turned out to be just the doughnut he wanted to be: swirled rainbow icing and yummy breading.  He remembered when he was cut into a ring, deep fried, cooled, iced, sprinkled, and named.  Then, he looked all around and saw all sorts of doughnuts sitting nearby.  Then, someone named Mr. Bing buys him.  He wanted to eat him, but Rainbow said, “What are you doing?!!”  He said,”I was going to eat you!” and Rainbow said, “So, why didn’t someone offer to eat me?”  Mr. Bing said, “Well, because you are a doughnut, that’s what you are for—to eat!”  After one hour, Mr. Bing said, “I think you should leave.”  But then he said, “Why don’t you be my doughnut dog and we can roll over and take walks?”   And then he slept with him.

Ocean City

I loved Ocean City!  I played in the waves.  I played in the sand.  On the last day, I didn’t like it much because I got tired of playing on the beach.

I rode the Slide for Five go-karts at Jolly Rogers without anyone!  It was very fun!  I loved it sooo much.   I was a good driver.  My favorite part of my vacation was riding the Slide for Five!

We got a new hermit crab named Ig. His middle name is Butkis because he has a football shell.  And claws.

After we did Jolly Rogers, we went to Candy Kitchen to make our ice cream sundaes and I also got bracelets called Silly Bands.  Yum, yum, yum, I liked my ice cream.  My ice cream flavor was chocolate chip cookie dough.  I got whipped cream, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry on it.

On one of the days we went to Uncle Joerg’s house to go jet-skiing.  We went a little far out in the bay.  I rode on the red jet ski with Uncle Joerg.

I had a great time on vacation! The End.

Maryland Science Center, Part 2

I’m working in the wet lab here. I’m using tests to identify powders with red stuff.

When we were done with this experiment, we examined them under the microscope.

In this picture, I am playing a game.

In this one, I am wearing a NASA space suit.  Astronomers wear this.  Or you can call them astronauts.

The End of Part 2.
